My journey into the healthcare world started at age 17 when I started working in a nursing home where I took a CNA course and received my CNA license. As a CNA i was introduced to healthcare and began to learn about the health care setting and how to provide basic patient care. After 2 years as a CNA in a nursing home, I attended a medication course and received a medication aide license. I eagerly learned about the different medications and practiced administering them in the nursing home setting. A year into this role I decided to advance my career and attended Frank Phillips College in 2011 in Borger, Texas and obtained my LVN license in 2012.
As an LVN for 9 years, I worked mainly in long term care, skilled nursing facilities and was even introduced into management for 1 year. My management role as an LVN was Assistant Director of Nursing in which I managed a skilled nursing hall and maintained the weight system for the facility. During my LVN career I wanted a change in setting and worked for a small acute care hospital on the Medical Surgical Floor. During my time at the hospital, I gained a great amount of nursing skills and learned about different disease processes I wasn't able to experience in a long term care setting. In 2020 I attended Galen College of Nursing in San Antonio, Texas and graduated with my RN ADN in 2021.
As an RN, I now currently work in a Long Term Acute Care/Rehab hospital in which I was transitioned into the Charge Nurse role. Starting this new role, I was enticed into returning to Galen College of Nursing to complete my RN to BSN and gain knowledge in nursing leadership skills. My goal is to be knowledgeable in leadership to be able to lead my nursing team in the right direction. I want to help build up my team and work together to successfully provide the best patient care on our unit. My future career goal is to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner so I can help care for and guide patients through their mental health issues. Returning to school for my BSN is a stepping stone leading me to achieve my future end goal.
